With its full lineup of wines, its calendar of exciting events, and its location in the famed Willamette Valley winegrowing region, the winery is a must-see destination for wine lovers passing through the northwestern Oregon area.
Argyle Winery
Argyle Winery’s history is a relatively short one. But that hasn’t stopped them from making big waves in the Oregon wine scene. The winery was founded by Rollin Soles in 1987, whose stated mission was to “capture the unique terroir of the Willamette Valley in a sparkling wine.” Thirty short years later, Argyle produces one of the broadest selections of wines of any Oregon winery. Argyle offers not only sparkling wines but a diverse array of whites and reds, including riesling, chardonnay, and pinot noir. Argyle Winery (located in Dundee) is an easy drive from both Salem and Portland.
A Full Selection of Fine Oregon Wine
Argyle Winery states proudly on its website that it is the only American winery to have been recognized in Wine Spectator‘s “Top 100 Wines of the World” in three categories: sparkling, white, and red. The winery offers a diverse array of reasonably priced wines such as Argyle Brut Rosé (“showcasing the alluring depth and clarity” of the Willamette Valley), Spirithouse Chardonnay from the Knudsen Vineyard, Nuthouse Riesling from the Lone Star Vineyard, and Minus 5 Riesling, made with grapes flash-frozen at -5 degrees Fahrenheit (hence the name). Perhaps one of its most desirable offerings is pinot noir. The mountain ranges to either side of the Willamette Valley shield it from excessive rain and adverse weather. This grants the valley’s vineyards the long growing seasons which pinot noir requires. Argyle pinot noirs are hand-picked and fermented in small open-top bins, and perfectly capture the unique terroir of the valley.
New Tasting Facility
The new Argyle Tasting House in downtown Dundee is the perfect place to sample the winery’s offerings. In addition to tastings (reservations are recommended), the winery’s tasting room now offers “elevated experiences”—tours, “Legacy Tastings,” and classes.
