Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins… oh my! Celebrate the true spirit of halloween and keep up the ghoulish party theme with creative, spooky cocktails. Quench the thirst of your audience with a various assortment of fancy drinks, such as The Witch’s Heart, Zombie Slime Shooters, and a Dead Man’s Kiss.
1. The Witch’s Heart
The Witch’s Heart is a fun cocktail that can be adapted to any taste. The traditional cocktail, designed by The Flavor Bender, is crafted using a combination of alcohol, mischief, and a touch of magic!
- 1 jigger apple brandy or apple vodka (chilled)
- 1 tsp grenadine
- 2 jiggers (or to top up) Homemade Blackberry Shimmery Liqueur (chilled)
- Powdered dry ice optional
- Martini glass to serve
- Add about 1/2 – 1 tsp of powdered dry ice to the bottom of the glass (optional).
- Place the apple brandy and purple shimmery liqueur in a shaker. Add 1 ice cube and shake for a few seconds to chill the drink. Strain the drink into a martini glass. Top up with more purple shimmery liqueur if necessary.
- Pour 1 tsp of grenadine syrup, about an inch from the surface of the drink – the grenadine should sink to the bottom, creating a “bleeding” effect.
- Add about 1/2 tsp of powdered dry ice on top and serve with a stirrer, so that your guests can stir the “potion” to create that shimmery, smoky effect.
2. Zombie Slime Shooters
Zombie Slime Shooters are the perfect fruity Halloween cocktails that’ll give all your guests a burst of flavor. With hints of peach, sour apple, and coconut, these shooters will bring any zombie back to life. HGTV has the perfect recipe for these Halloween favorites. Why fix the recipe when it’s not broken?
- 1 ounce vodka
- 1 ounce peach schnapps
- 1 ounce sour apple schnapps
- 1 ounce coconut rum
- 1 ounce sweet and sour mix
- 3 tablespoons corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
1. Mix corn syrup with red food coloring.
2. Dip the rim of martini glass into the mixture, and slowly spin the glass to coat it.
3. Turn the glass upright and the blood will begin to drip slightly. Set aside.
1. Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes.
2. Shake well and pour over ice cubes into slime-rimmed martini glass.
3. Dead Man’s Kiss
We all know that dead men tell no tales. Well that’s unless they’re receiving a very special kiss.. a Dead Man’s Kiss to be exact. These black vodka specialty drinks are absolutely to die for come every Halloween. This Mama Cooks’s recipe digs a little deeper and even explores how to make the black vodka using black rice rather than food coloring.
- Red decorating sugar
- Ice cubes
- 1 ounce black vodka
- 1 ounce coffee liqueur, like Sabroso Licor de Café
- 1/4 teaspoon Frangelico liqueur
- Place red decorating sugar in a small dish. Turn the glass upside down and dip it into a small bowl of water. Dip the rim of glass into the sugar.
- Carefully place ice cubes into the glass.
- In a small measuring cup with a spout, mix the vodka, coffee liqueur and Frangelico together. Pour over ice and serve.
4. Pumpkin Spice Sangria
Contrary to what you may think, there is nothing basic about the Pumpkin Spice Sangria — the Halloween twist on the beloved sangria. This traditional fall flavor has infiltrated itself into pie, lattes, chocolate morsels, and now wine! This recipe, courtesy of Sandra Lee of the Food Network, is sure to leave your mouth watering for more.
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- Six 4 to 5-inch long cinnamon sticks, for garnish
- 6 pumpkin candies, for garnish, such as Brach’s
- 1 bottle white wine, chilled
- 3 cups mango peach juice blend or tropical juice blend, chilled, such as V-8 Splash
- 1 cup pumpkin spice liqueur, chilled
- In a small bowl, combine the sugar and pumpkin pie spice and mix until well combined. Transfer to a saucer. Add the maple syrup to a second saucer. Lightly dip the rims of 6 punch glasses into the maple syrup. Then dip the rims of the glasses into the spiced sugar.
- Insert the cinnamon sticks into the bottom of each pumpkin candy and set aside.
- In a pitcher, combine the wine, juice and pumpkin spice liqueur. Stir and pour into the rimmed glasses. Garnish with the pumpkin candy cinnamon sticks.
- Cook’s Note: If you cannot find pumpkin spice liqueur, combine 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice with 1 cup brandy in a container fitted with a lid. Shake vigorously and let sit for 1 day to infuse into the brandy.
5. The Phoenix Cocktail
Bring the heat during your Halloween party with the Phoenix Cocktail. This shimmery, color-changing concoction will put your guests in a trance as they sip on the sweet and tangy gin cocktail. The folks over at The Flavor Bender have mastered how you can make this fun drink the highlight of your party.
LEMON ELDERFLOWER SYRUP
- ½ cup strained lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- ½ cup elderflower syrup (cordial)
- ¼ cup vodka
COLOR CHANGING SHIMMERY GIN
- 5 – 6 dried butterfly pea flowers
- 1 ½ cups of gin
- ¼ tsp white luster dust (edible or food-grade luster dust)
- 2.2 fl oz (1 1/2 jiggers) butterfly pea infused, color changing gin (chilled in the freezer)
- 2 fl oz (1 1/4 jiggers) lemon and elderflower syrup (chilled)
- 2 ½ tsp rum 151 (optional)
- Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
- 1 small ice cube (or some crushed ice)
LEMON ELDERFLOWER SYRUP
Pour all the ingredients into a jar. Shake or stir to combine. Chill the syrup until needed.
BUTTERFLY PEA INFUSED COLOR CHANGING GIN
- Place the butterfly pea flowers and gin in a jar. Close the lid and let the flowers infuse the alcohol for a few hours (3 hours to overnight), until the gin turns a deep blue. You can see the video and photos of the gin in this post.
Strain the gin to remove the flowers. Discard the flowers and pour the gin into a glass bottle. Add the white luster dust and shake it to make a shimmery spirit. Place the gin in the freezer to chill.
- Place the ice cube in a heat resistant 4 oz glass (like a rock glass or small tumbler) – this step is optional, and serves to keep the drink nice and cold.
- Shake the color changing gin to mix in the luster dust that may have settled to the bottom. Pour 2 oz of the gin into the glass.
- Using the back of a spoon, carefully layer the rum 151 over the gin. Using a long nose firelighter or long match stick, light up the rum 151 layer.
- Serve the drink with the the lemon and elderflower syrup on the side. Pour the syrup into the drink to change the color of the drink from blue to purple. Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon over the flame to create sparks (optional).
- Smother the fire by placing a saucer / small dish over the glass for a few seconds. Stir and serve the drink. Enjoy!
